Interested in the prevention and control of communicable diseases, and health issues in the community or healthcare setting? Bug Day is for you!

Nationally and internationally recognized experts will present timely topics in infectious diseases and public health at Manitoba’s largest healthcare continuing professional development event. Held every year during National Infection Prevention & Control Week, Bug Day is streamed online – it’s FREE – and you’re invited.

The programme is accredited for physicians and can be used for continuing education purposes by other healthcare workers. There is no charge, but you must register to attend the live sessions. Registrations are not accepted post-event.

Accreditation Statement

This event was co-developed with the CPD Medicine Program, University of Manitoba and was planned to achieve scientific integrity, objectivity and balance.

  • This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been approved by the CPD Medicine Program, University of Manitoba for up to 7 Mainpro+ credits.
  • This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the CPD Medicine Program, University of Manitoba for a maximum of 7 hours.
  • Participants should only claim credit for the actual number of hours attended.
  • The University of Manitoba CPD Medicine Program is fully accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME).

Overall Objectives

By attending this program, the attendee will be able to:

  • State local epidemiology of infection with the human immunodeficiency virus and measures that are being taken locally for control of transmission (Scholar, FM expert, Medical Expert, Collaborative, Communicator, Health Advocate, Professional)
  • State indications for measles and influenza vaccination (Scholar, Leader)
  • State the names of the pathogens responsible for “walking pneumonia” (Scholar)
